The Hunter is the final boss of Forest.

Appearance

The Hunter is a tall, slender figure with a beaked face, wearing what appears to be a traditional Mongolian hat, along with some sort of jacket or gambeson with a thin waist. They have beady red eyes at a downward angle, and it is hard to tell whether or not they are wearing pants. He is surprisingly feminine in appearance.

Behaviour + Drops

The Hunter moves slowly, summoning Hounds and deploying caltrops that inflict 10 damage when stepped on. If close, The Hunter will also attempt to stab the player with its pole hammer inflicting 60 damage. The Hunter will also periodically block player attacks.

The Hunter has 800 HP, and when killed will drop 5 gold, 5 hearts, and 5 big hearts, with a 50% chance to drop 15 hearts, and 15 gold, as well as a 100% chance to drop a Dream Sphere and a random Ring. Upon defeating The Hunter it will drop the B Note, and the portal will appear leading to Ending 3: Trapped. If the player has unlocked , the portal there will also appear.

Strategy

Like every boss (save the Flesh Golem), The Hunter can easily be defeated by employing circle-strafing. You may end up running over his caltrops, but they don't do enough damage to be a concern.

Trivia

  • Unlike the summons of other bosses, The Hunter's Hounds do not die automatically after he is defeated.
  • The Hunter's model is notably more detailed than the other main-level bosses. His animations are also much cleaner.
  • The Hunter is the only boss to lay traps for the player, unless you count Slime King's trail.
  • Other than himself, The Hunter appears to be the enemy who most wants the player dead.
