Blood & Dream

Coins

Coins are usually rewarded for killing enemies and opening pots but can be gotten through other means. Coins gained by killing enemies can be increased by potions of wealth and some rings, it can also be decreased by potions of poverty. Coins can be used to buy shop items and offered to gain access to the Gilded Halls.

The game's manual calls them gold coins. Most of this wiki still says simply "gold", and Gold redirects here.

Where coins come from

Coins are dropped by enemies, mostly 1 or 5 at a time, with bosses leaving 5 and a 50% chance of 15 more. The Pot Mimic and Lich can leave larger amounts. Breaking pots also gives coins. See Hearts for the full drop table, which lists coins alongside hearts. The wiki's Collectibles overview compares coins with the other pickups.

What coins are for

  • Buying items from shops.
  • Offering to the golden altar to open the way to the Gilded Halls. Sources give 100 and roughly 201 and may be describing two different altars — see Gilded Halls.
  • Danger: the Golden Ball Guy steals coins instead of damaging health.

Changing how much you get

The Potion of Wealth raises enemy coin drops and the Potion of Poverty lowers them (see Potions). The Gold Ring raises coin drops on the first three finger slots and extends ability time on the rest.

From the official manual

  • Gold coins are left behind by defeated foes and can be exchanged for powerful artifacts.
