Finger Altar

Image 2025-10-04 120222331.pngThe altar model, which the Pugilism Altar shares The Finger Altar is a centerpiece that trades one of your fingers for a random item. It is the only source of several weapons, and one of the few sources of bands.

The cost

You give up a finger. Since rings are worn on fingers, that is also a ring slot gone for the rest of the run — see Rings.

What it gives

A random item from a pool of weapons and bands. Pages across this wiki name these as obtainable here:

Telling it apart from the Pugilism Altar

The Pugilism Altar uses the same model and texture, so the two look alike in a room, but they are different centerpieces: the Pugilism Altar takes the weapon in your hand and gives the Bladed Ring. Both are described in game as eater altars.

First-hand: observed in game by the wiki's owner, October 2026. Unlike the community-sourced notes elsewhere on this wiki, this was seen in play rather than taken from a guide or a forum thread.

Sources and community notes

  • A forum thread on finger altars reports roughly a 1 in 11 chance of any particular band, and one player spending over 20 hours grinding for the last one they needed.
  • The 0.1.5 patch notes fixed a crash that occurred when the altar had no items left to offer.
  • A commenter on the Secret Rooms guide defends the finger altar against that guide's low opinion of it, calling the Warsword the most broken weapon in the game and this altar the way to get it.
  • That guide warns against "eater altars" because they cost maximum ring capacity. Losing a finger is exactly that cost, so its warning appears to be about this altar, though the guide never uses the name.
