Rings

Rings Collection.pngRings CollectionHands - UI Blank.pngHands UI Rings are powerful items imbued with magic properties that are dropped as loot or sold at the vendor. When a ring is interacted with, A brief and likely vague description of the rings properties will be provided, along side the option to leave or equip the ring. Choosing to equip the ring will bring up the hands UI, displaying both hands with 4 fingers per hand, with circular slots on each. Hovering over any given slot will initially yield no information, but each finger has a specific effect or effects. Many rings like the goblin ring and face ring have both positive and negative effects, while others like the spike ring yield nothing but improvements. Once a ring has been placed upon a specific finger, this finger and its specific associated effect given by that ring will be remembered permanently and will display this effect whenever hovering over the finger that particular ring.

Rings cannot be removed and preserved or moved to another finger once equipped, however when equipping a ring, it can be placed upon an occupied finger, replacing and destroying said ring.

Finger slot numbering

Community guides number the slots 1 to 8 using a hand diagram, and several ring pages list their effects by slot number. The numbers appear to run across both hands in one line. The Face Ring's curse is on slots 4 and 5, and players report it triggers on the thumbs, which suggests those are the thumbs in the middle of the line. The Pain Ring also has a symmetric pattern (slots 1, 2, 7 and 8 differ from slots 3 to 6), which fits that layout. Which hand is which and the exact finger for each number are not confirmed.

Slot tables are on the pages for the Slime Ring, Hell Ring, Pain Ring, Eye Ring, Gold Ring, Key Ring, Blood Ring, Face Ring, Spider Ring, Bullet Ring, Sun Ring, Ice Ring, Fire Ring, Goblin Ring, Knowledge Ring, Protection Ring, Snake Ring, Jump Ring, Simple Ring and Great Ring.

The source guide marked the Flower, Spike, Chaos and Tear rings as work in progress, so those have no slot data yet.

  • A review describes the hands displayed at the side of the screen as how ring placement is read, and singles out the Chaos Ring as destabilising.
  • A strategy guide gives per-finger advice by finger name rather than by slot number, covering the Face, Great, Hell, Homunculus, Tear, Spider, Shadow, Knowledge, Protection and Pain rings. Its advice is recorded on each of those pages. It also says wearing several copies of the same ring stacks their buffs, and that a badly placed ring has to be swapped or the finger cut off.
  • This is one player's strategy guide, so the finger advice is their recommendation rather than a full effect table. It names fingers directly, where the Rings and Fingers guide uses numbered slots; the two have not been reconciled against each other.

From the official manual

  • The manual confirms the core mechanic: a single ring produces a different effect depending on which finger bears it, and it warns you to choose the finger carefully, saying there is a reason these rings are considered cursed.
  • It calls cursed rings some of the most precious treasures in the dungeons, and uses the Blood, Ice and Tear rings as its examples.

From the game's official manual. Unlike the rest of the notes on this page, this is a primary source: it is the developer's own documentation, not community research.
