Portals are how you leave a floor.
Linear portals
Each default floor's portal appears once that floor's boss is defeated, and takes you on to the next floor. The Forest portal is the last of the linear ones. A boss that splits, such as the Blood Golem, must be killed in full before its portal appears.
Secret portals
Secret portals are found in secret rooms and lead to the secret floors. On leaving a secret floor you are taken to the next default floor after the one you entered from.

- The Secret Rooms guide says every secret portal shares the same texture, so the portal itself does not tell you where it leads, and that these exits lead to alternate floors carrying extra note letters and loot.
