Monolith

Monolith.png "In the dawn of time, these have been used as a way to honor someone. Inside the Dream, these serve as conduits for disgusting creatures."

The Monolith can spawn in any floor after being unlocked by defeating the Dungeon boss, the Wizard Lord.

The Monolith has 60 HP, and when killed will drop 1 gold, and 1 heart. The Monolith is stationary, and will passively summon other enemies until it is destroyed. The Monolith must be destroyed to unblock the room it is in. Rooms can spawn with other enemies in addition to a Monolith, though enemies summoned by the Monolith will be distinguished by a purple tether, and will die immediately upon destroying the Monolith. The Monolith will only summon enemies from the spawn table of the given floor.

Also called the Obelisk, which is the name the Centerpieces table and the Rooms page use. They are the same object.

First-hand: observed in game by the wiki's owner, October 2026. Unlike the community-sourced notes elsewhere on this wiki, this was seen in play rather than taken from a guide or a forum thread.

As a centerpiece

Obelisk.pngThe Obelisk as it stands in a room The Monolith is listed among the centerpieces under the name Obelisk, and it is the one centerpiece that is also an enemy: it stands in the middle of a room, spawns there by the same rules as the other centerpieces, and has to be fought.

That is why it interacts with the room lock. A room stays sealed until everything inside it is dead, and enemies summoned by an Obelisk count toward that total — unlike enemies dug up from Graves, which do not. Destroying the Monolith kills its summons outright, so the fastest way out of the room is the Monolith itself rather than the creatures it keeps producing. See Gate and Rooms.

Sources and community notes

  • The achievements guide lists a Bestiary Keeper achievement, so every enemy page here matters for completing the Bestiary.
  • No page-specific forum or guide coverage was found for this page; the references below are the closest general ones.
  • The Secret Rooms guide lists monoliths among the things that appear inside secret rooms, calling them more annoying versions of the normal rooms.
