Notes are dropped by bosses throughout the game, there are 6 in total, which spell out the antagonist's name, and vary in crypticness.

- The O Note, dropped by The Necromancer
- The K Note, dropped by Blood Golem
Trivia
- The secret levels Gilded Halls, Wax World, Black Crystal and Dark Zone are not required for Ending 1,, as no noted are received from them; however, Blood Rooms, for some reason, is required for the K note. The Killer also does not need to be defeated for the first ending.
Community notes
- Each boss's parting text hints at one letter of the name.
- Some letters come from secret floors, which are not guaranteed to appear every run.
- A forum player who was missing only the last letter pointed out that the Hub puzzle cycles through all 26 letters, so the last one can be found by trial.
- Spelling the name correctly in The Hub earns the "Secret Knowledge" achievement and opens the path to the Caves of Limbok. See Endings.
- The Secret Rooms guide says the alternate floors reached from secret rooms carry more name letters, and a commenter reports finishing their name that way.
